The Centerpiece of the Scouting Experience

Every year our scouts and leaders organize and plan the all important trip to summer camp. It's the one event that allows scouts the best opportunity to focus on achieving a variety of Merit Badges (MB). The facilitites at summer camp provide the tools and leadership to earn badges that may be a challenge to get anywhere else. It is highly encouraged that the boys have this experience at some point of their scouting adventure. Once the boys attend they usually want to go back. This camp experience provides a great foundation for boys to be on their own and learn lessons and skills that will help them discover themselves.

Troop 60 has had the privledge of traveling to Camp Ma Ka Ja Wan in Wisconsin for the last 5 years and have found it to be a well mantained operation where many things are offered for the motivated scout. The staff has been top notch and very helpful to our boys. We even have boys who have done internships at Ma Ka Ja Wan.

Summer camp trips typically fall in the last weeks of June, always returning before July 4th. There are fees and expenses to consider but all investments in your boys growth is well worth it.

Camp Talk

2010 Summer Camp: Troop 60 will once again travel north to Pearson, Wisconsin to attend the first available week of camping at Ma Ka ja Wan Scout Camp. As has been the drill the last few years, we will leave on Saturday June 26th at 9am from St. Odilo's parking lot. The Troop will return Saturday July 3rd, usually arriving home in the late afternoon. Parents will be called and informed of an estimated time of arrival.

We love the Ma Ka Ja Wan camp because it has so much to offer Scouts and run by a great group of young adult scouts. We want all the boys to take advantage of all the activities they can enjoy at summer camp, like horseback riding, sailing, golf, white water rafting and more. See the new summer camp flyer linked below for a more complete list. Be sure to let your leaders know if you want to sign up as soon as possible. Many activities fill up before you even get to camp. Early bird gets the worm, boys. Most of the additional activities require an additions fee. Be sure to check the flyer.

Once again our SPL Justin K and John L will work the summer at Ma Ka Ja Wan. It'll be Justin's 3rd year and John L will be working his second year. It's really a great opportunity for the boys to spend some time on their own, meeting new people and earning a few bucks for their college accounts. Congratulations to these 2 Scouts for taking the responsibilities of running a summer camp and inspiring others to do so. We hear they ahve a great time too!

Hope we see alot of the boys go to Ma Ka Ja Wan this year. See ya there!
